Checking Criminal History in Caribou County

A booking may appear before a case is filed. A filed charge may differ from the arrest charge. BCI can lack a local arrest if no fingerprint card reached the repository. These are normal differences between products, not proof that one source is false.

Idaho Official Background Checks

The Idaho State Police BCI Criminal History Unit maintains the central Idaho repository. Idaho has no public instant conviction-name portal. Instead, BCI accepts an official name-based form or a fingerprint-based form. A name check costs $20. The Idaho fingerprint check costs $25 under the fee schedule effective January 1, 2026. BCI fingerprint capture in Meridian costs $10 for the first card and $5 for each extra card. Caribou County Sheriff advertises local fingerprinting, but no local capture price or hours were published.

The name result covers the Idaho Central Repository, not other states, FBI-only information, or federal convictions. A current waiver is not required, though a waiver signed within 180 days affects disclosure of a nondisposed arrest older than twelve months. Fingerprints offer positive identity matching. BCI warns that aliases, common names, and false birth dates can weaken a name match.

Caribou Arrests Missing From BCI

BCI is fingerprint based. If the arresting agency does not submit an arrest fingerprint card, that Caribou County event will not appear in the Idaho repository history. iCourt supplies a free public index, but it does not promise an image of every filing. Search an exact case number first. Otherwise use a party name, expand the advanced filters, select Caribou as the location, and narrow by case type, status, or filing dates. Record the case number from the matching docket. Inside a Caribou County Criminal Record

What appears depends on the source. A BCI report centers on identity and fingerprint-supported arrest cycles. A court file centers on prosecution. A booking file centers on custody. Never assume that the first arrest charge became the filed charge or final outcome.

Public copies redact Social Security numbers and other protected data. Registry records also withhold driver-license numbers, phone numbers, online identifiers, and law-enforcement-only information.

Caribou Jail Has No Roster

The 49-bed Caribou County Jail has no verified public online roster or daily booking log. Call the booking desk at (208) 547-3094 for current local custody. Use VINELink for status notifications, the sheriff’s public-record form for a booking file, and iCourt for a filed prosecution. After transfer to state custody or supervision, use the IDOC Resident/Client Search. These channels cover different stages.

The state locator can show an IDOC number, status, physical location, supervising district, and active sentence rows. It is not a historical rap sheet and does not prove current Caribou County jail custody. Federal detention is separate. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator supplies the federal route.

Public Access Laws in Idaho

The Idaho Public Records Act governs ordinary county and sheriff records. Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32 governs judicial files. BCI repository data has its own dissemination rules. Public access does not erase protections for sealed cases, juveniles, victims, active investigations, or private identifiers. If only part of an agency record is exempt, ask whether the public portion can be separated and released with redactions.

For ordinary agency records, current Idaho guidance gives an outer response period of ten working days for a resident and 35 working days for a nonresident. A denial must cite its authority and appeal rights.

The form asks for first and last name, email, phone, the requested records, contact choice, and an electronic signature.

Judicial copies still go to the clerk. A Soda Springs Police report goes through the city’s own public-information form, while an ISP District 5 report goes through ISP’s records process.

Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records

Idaho expungement is not a broad erasure of adult convictions. Under Idaho Code § 67-3004(10), a person may seek removal of qualifying arrest fingerprints and repository entries after no indictment or information within one year, acquittal of all offenses from the incident, or dismissal of all charges. The BCI application requires proof from the arresting agency or court. A dismissal after conviction or withheld judgment under § 19-2604(1) does not qualify for that BCI path.

Clean Slate shielding is different. A qualifying person petitions the court under § 67-3004(11), generally after five years from completing the full sentence, supervision, fines, and restitution. Shielding limits public display but does not destroy the file. The defendant and justice agencies performing official duties can retain access, and revocation can restore public access. Juvenile and protected court records follow separate restriction rules.

Reading Caribou County Crime Data

Official 2023 Crime in Idaho data for the sheriff’s jurisdiction used a population base of 4,000 that excluded Soda Springs. It reported 24 Group A offenses, 11 cleared offenses, and 40 arrests. That scope includes sheriff-served Grace, Bancroft, and rural territory, but it does not support a separate count for either small city. Soda Springs Police data also carried a technical-problems warning. Submitted zeros cannot be described as proof of no crime.

Population and crime sources use different boundaries and years, so their figures should not be blended into an unsupported countywide rate.

Caribou Probation and Parole Records

Adult felony supervision is state run through IDOC District 6. The Soda Springs satellite is in the courthouse at 159 South Main and can be reached at (208) 547-1813. The county also lists a probation number, (208) 547-2591, so callers should say whether the question concerns adult felony, misdemeanor, county, or juvenile supervision. The IDOC locator may show community status and a supervising district, while iCourt shows the original sentence and case outcome.

Parole release decisions come from the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole. Community supervision remains with IDOC.

Caribou Criminal Record Terms

Idaho docket language can change how a result should be read. These terms prevent an arrest or intermediate event from being mistaken for a conviction.

Disposition

The outcome recorded for a case or individual charge.

Withheld judgment

An Idaho court withholds entry of judgment under set legal conditions; it is not the same as a dismissal.

Acquittal

A not-guilty outcome after the charge is decided.

Bench warrant

A warrant commonly issued after a person fails to appear or comply in an existing case.

Probation

Community supervision ordered instead of, or in addition to, custody.

Parole

Conditional release after prison, with supervision administered by IDOC.

A pending charge has no final disposition. Likewise, a dismissed charge is not a conviction, and release from jail does not by itself close the prosecution.

Caribou County Criminal Records by City

Soda Springs, Grace, and Bancroft share county courts and booking services, but the first custodian can differ. Soda Springs has its own police department and city request form. Caribou County Sheriff serves Grace and Bancroft. All three route filed criminal cases to Caribou County iCourt and the clerk rather than a separate municipal portal.

The 2020 Census counts establish the page order. Sheriff crime totals must not be divided among Grace, Bancroft, and rural Caribou County because the source does not report those places separately.
